My wife stood up, walked to the middle of the stage, and sat down without any objection. She had to know what was coming next, so why was she going along with it? Was she really hypnotized that deeply?

Up to that point, I was convinced that all 'hypnotism' did was influence people by suppressing their inhibitions/embarrassment, and so allow them to do things they actually wanted to experience, or at least were willing to bear. I think of this as a 'shallow hypnotic' state.
